The Enksail Orion 49 is an aluminum go-anywhere cruiser explorer sailing yacht. Like all of our Enksail Yachts, this Orion 49 is semi-custom built. This means that the client has great influence on the equipment, interior layout and styling.
This Enksail Orion 49 was built for Canada’s Paul and Sheryl Shard of Distant Shores, known for their sailing videos on television and YouTube. Since 1989, they have been documenting sailing and life on board. During thirty years, they have 110,000 miles under their keel and nine ocean crossings behind their names. The ship’s name “DISTANT SHORES IV” reveals that this is their fourth sailing yacht.
The functional pilothouse with enough visibility to keep watch from inside during sea voyages, combined with the many custom options, was the reason for Paul and Sheryl to have an Enksail Orion 49 built: An aluminium sailing yacht that made it possible to fulfill the demands of their ongoing global adventures. It has become a richly equipped vessel including:
- Hybrid propulsion (Yanmar 80HP Combi 15kW)
- Lithium battery pack
- Proprotional bow thruster, anchor winch and electric winches in 48V
- Electrically operated mainsail and headsails
- Hydraulically operated lifting keel
- Three-rudder system from Jefa
- Arch with solar panels and integrated davits
